Pride of Kentucky Chorus & Quartet Prevail

The Pride of Kentucky Chorus and the Harmony Highlights quartet both won top honors in their categories in a Sweet Adelines women's barbershop singing contest on April 20 at Memorial Auditorium.

Pride of Kentucky Chorus won over eighteen other choruses from Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Their first-place win qualifies them to represent this region at the international level of competition next year (1992) in Baltimore. Pride of Kentucky Chorus is directed by Debbie Hite.

The winner of the quartet division, Harmony Highlights, is composed of members from the Pride of Kentucky Chorus, including director Hite. The quartet will also compete at the international level in October 1991 in San Antonio.

Another Louisville group, Derby City Chorus, placed second, and a quartet of Derby City Chorus singers, named Derbytown Sound, placed second in the quartet division.

Sweet Adelines, Inc., was formed in 1947 as the "women's version" of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, according to Pride of Kentucky Chorus publicity. There are some 30,000 members in the United States and eleven foreign countries.
