WAMZ Contest Benefits St. Jude's

Keene & Co. took top honors in WAMZ Radio's Country Bands Contest at Jim Porter's Good Time Emporium on March 8 and the children of St. Jude's Hospital were also winners.

A total of six bands competed for the top prize of $500 in two Sundays of competition. According to WAMZ spokesperson Letha Hall, the total attendance for the March 1 and 8 event was some 905, with each person donating $1 to be given to St. Jude's Hospital.

In addition to the $500 cash prize, Keene & Co. received a trophy and an opportunity to play a month of Country Sundays at Jim Porter's, plus an additional opportunity to open for one of WAMZ's Concerts in the Park.

Second-place winner was Wild Horses, while Susie Harper and the Heartwood Band placed third.

Other contestants included The Breeze, Wilder Days and Desert Wind.
