Letters to the Editor

Pay Peggy Lee

As an entertainment writer, I've come across an oversight that our readers need to be aware of. Miss Peggy Lee was awarded 2.3 million in royalties for her work as a songwriter, performer and the many publicity duties that she performed on behalf of Walt Disney's "Lady and the Tramp."

The Walt Disney Company has appealed this judgment, even though the video version of "Lady and the Tramp" has outsold "Top Gun"! For all of us that love songwriters and performers in general, and Miss Peggy Lee in particular, please write to The Walt Disney Company to express your dismay at their cynical attitude toward the talent that has made The Walt Disney Company a major player in 1991.

There is no reason why Miss Peggy Lee should have to shoulder the burden of this test case alone. She won her case, and she deserves to be paid.
