Award-Winning Songwriter Leads Local Seminar

Richard Leigh, president of the Nashville Songwriters Association International, conducted a mini Seminar on June 25 at Deer Park Baptist Church for local NSAI members and guests. Thirty-five songwriters turned out for the three-hour event, which included a question and answer session and critique of songs.

Richard stayed past the planned closing time to chat, take pictures and sing six of his hit songs, including Grammy winner "Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" and this year's NSAI and Academy of'C0untry Music Song of the Year, "Somewhere In My Broken Heart," which he co-wrote with singer Billy Dean.

Appreciation and thanks are still coming in from members and songwriters who attended.

Dot Elpers, first Louisville NSAI cocoordinator, may have said it best: "It was a special gift for Richard Leigh to share his feelings about writing songs. He didn't have to do that."

Richard also conducted a seminar at the Louisville NSAI Workshop in 1983. We hope he can return sooner next time.

The NSAI Louisville Workshop meets the second Monday of each month, 7:309 p.m., at Deer Park Baptist Church, 1733 Bardstown Road, Louisville.
