Seventh Annual

Songwriting Competition Announced

The Louisville Area Songwriters' Cooperative is pleased to announce its Seventh Annual Songwriting Contest, Songwriting Competition '93.

Once again, the LASC will give away over $2,000 in prizes to the best songs entered in the contest. We are all excited about it and look forward to hearing all the good tunes.

So get your songs together, read the rules, note the changes and enter those tunes.

Lyrics-Only Category

This year, a new category has been created, in response to writer demand — a Lyrics-Only category. Rules for this new category are fairly straightforward. Contestants must submit three typed lyric sheets, an entry form for each lyric, and entry fees for the total number of entries. The prize for this category is the same as all the other categories — $100. The winner will be eligible for the Grand Prize.

Jazz/Instrumental Category

There has been one other change of some significance. The former Jazz category has been changed to include instrumental music, including New Age.

Multiple Entries

We have fixed a lower fee for entries in multiples of three. Groups of songs may be paid for by a single check or money order.

Entry fees should be calculated in this way: Figure out how many groups of three songs you have. Those can be entered at the reduced rate. The number of songs left over can be entered at the single-song rate.

For example, if a writer wishes to enter ten songs, the fee is: 3 groups of 3 songs times $25, or $75, plus one song at $10, for a total of $85.

Please read the rules carefully before entering.

THE PRIZES

Prizes will be awarded at the Awards Banquet on November 6, 1993. There are two levels of prizes:

$100 Category Prizes

In each category, one winner will be selected. The winner in each category will receive a $100 prize. In addition, the ten category-winning songs will be eligible to compete for the Grand Prize.

$1,000 Grand Prize

One song from among the ten category finalists will receive a $1,000 Grand Prize.

Announcement of Winners

Category finalists will be notified by October 15, 1993. Winners in each category and the winner of the Grand Prize will be announced at the Awards Banquet on Saturday, November 6, 1993. The Banquet will be held in conjunction with the Songwriting Seminar at Holiday Inn, 120 W. Broadway St., Louisville, KY 40202.

Judging

Judging will be handled in the following ways: Preliminary judging will be by non-participating members of the LASC, resulting in ten finalists in each category. These ten finalists will be given to a three-person panel of judges knowledgeable in the given category to select the winning song in each category. Judges will rank by scoresheet. Five Grand Prize judges will select the winner from the eleven category-winning songs.

Dates of the Contest

The contest is open to receive entries effective August 1, 1993. All entries must be received, not just postmarked, by August 31, 1993.

Entry Fees

Entry fee is $8 per song for LASC members; $10 for non-members. Groups of songs may be entered at three for $20 for LASC members; $25 for non-members. Each entry must be accompanied by a check or money order made payable to LASC. Multiple entries may be paid for by one check. There is no limit on the number of songs that may be entered.
