MEMBER NEWS

Welcome to the newest LASC members, Greg Wilson and Dan Bowman. Greg and Dan each presented a new song this month. They have recently been co-writing and recording together and are producing good results. Keep up the good work.

Critique Sets a New Record

The May critique sessions set a new record. Twenty-two songs by 18 songwriters were listened to last month. The previous record of 21 songs was set in July of 1992. Songs were presented by Mark Spence, Mike Layman, Ed O'Connor, Paul Moffett, Jean Metcalfe, Jonathan Miller, Ray Yates, Greg Wilson, Dan Bowman, Jack Schupp, Doc Dockery, Mark Gibbs, Roz and Vince Reynolds, Joann Hatcher, Earl Meyers, Mary Ann Crain and Ruby Peltier. Keep up the good work everyone.

Paul Moffett presented a brief explanation of the Nashville Method of charting a song.

One advantage of this numbering method over others is that the chart is not dependent on the key the song is in. If you have never charted a song, it can be very instructive to try it with several songs and then compare the overall layout and chord progression in this way. If you're having structural problems with a new song, many times the problem can be revealed by analyzing it in this way.

RE-MEMBER-ING

Members renewing their member-ships last month are Mark Gibbs, Patrick Moore, Ken Perkins, Gary Pottinger, James Anderson, Paulette Logsdon, William Rowland, Ron Allgood, Henry Austin, Larry Standiford, Ray Major, Nancie Brunner, and David Miller.

Thank you for your continuing support.
