Songwriting Competition '93

Official Entry Form

Please read the rules carefully. Signing the entry form signifies that you have read and agreed to these rules. There can be no exceptions.

THE RULES

1. The Seventh Annual Louisville Area Songwriters' Cooperative songwriting contest, hereafter referred to as Songwriting Competition '93, is open to any amateur songwriter. For the purpose of this contest, an amateur is defined as a songwriter not employed as a staff writer for a publishing company or being paid for such services since January 1, 1987, and/or not having earned more than $1,000 from songs they have written or co-written in any calendar year since January 1, 1987.

2. Judges and their families are not eligible to enter, except first-round judges may enter songs in categories other than those which they will judge.

3. A song is defined as a melody with lyrics. In the Jazz/Instrumental category, however, songs without lyrics are acceptable. This year, there is a new category for lyrics only.

4. You may enter as many songs as you wish in each category. (A song may be entered in more than one category; however, an entry fee, cassette and lyric sheet is required for each category entered.) Each entry must include:

a. A separate entry form. Photocopies are acceptable.

b. One cassette with one song on it, cued up. The cassette label shall contain only the name of the song, on the correct side. For entries in the lyrics-only category, this is not a requirement.

c. One copy of a legible lyric sheet, printed or typed. Do not put your name on the lyric sheet.

d. The appropriate fee per category, per song entered.

5. You may enter the same song in more than one category, but a song can win in only one category.

6. All entries must be received by August 31, 1993. The LASC assumes no responsibility for misdirected, lost or damaged entries.

7. Entered material will not be returned. Do not send your only copy and do not send an SASE (self-addressed, stamped envelope).

8. Publishers may not enter songs on behalf of songwriters.

9. The decisions of the judges will be final and binding.

10. Entrant agrees that in the event his/her/their entry is a winner of any prize in this contest, the sponsors and LASC will have the right to publicize and print their names and likenesses.

11. Entrant agrees that should his/her/their song be selected as a winner, LASC may use but shall not be required to use those songs within a commercially released recording of the winning songs. Should such a recording be released, statutory mechanical royalties will be paid annually on any sales in excess of 500 copies per tape. Entrants will retain all other publishing rights and copyrights to their songs.

12. Entries may not infringe upon any existing copyright or other rights of a third party. By signing the entry form, entrant agrees to indemnify the LASC from any liability for copyright infringements.

13. The entrant agrees to abide by all entry procedures, rules and regulations as stated herein.

14. Previous LASC contest first-prize-winning songs are excluded from this contest.
