Siesta (Caroline)
Peach

Maybe you thought that, with the untimely death of Kurt Cobain, Nirvana was history. If so, think again.

Siesta, the latest effort from Seattle's Peach, proves that Cobain's band lives on -- at least in the music of other artists that Nirvana has influenced.

Put simply: If you like Nirvana, you'll dig Peach. The band's sound is very reminiscent of early Nirvana without ever stooping to outright swipes. The Peach sound is a little cleaner, and several tracks here boast psychedelic flourishes Nirvana would have eschewed. But singer Rick Roberts sounds so much like Cobain it's eerie.

Among the most satisfying cuts here: The punk-groover "Dig a Hole," the feedback-soaked "Dead Soldier's Coat," the breezy "Earthbound" and the album's acoustic, instrumental title track. But there's not a loser among the ten cuts included.

One gauge of a great band is how long its influence is felt. Even today, you can't turn on the radio without hearing bits and pieces of The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, for example, scattered through other artists' work.

If Siesta is any indicator, Nirvana may cast a long shadow as well.
