Songwriter of the Month – Rita Beach

For several months in 1977 "Echoes" was the number one requested song in St. Louis, Missouri. The recording artist and writer of "Echoes" is our Songwriter of the Month: Rita Beach.

During her thirty years in the music business, Rita has recorded two albums and seven 45s and has written more than 150 songs. Add to those achievements Rita's recently earned certificate of merit from Billboard (her first time to enter a songwriting contest) for her original tune "Diamond in the Rough."

Rita Beach

Rita has appeared with country music artists Jack Reno and Hee Haw's Kenny Price at the then-popular Beef 'n Boards Dinner Theater in Simpsonville, Ky. and was the opening act for Pure Prairie League after their big hit "Amie" was released.

Rita has also performed at major hotel/motel chains extending from Jamestown, N.Y., to Palm Springs, Calif., as well as at festivals, corporate functions, weddings and noted charity events. In 1991 she entertained at Renfro Valley and last year she and her five-piece band Sweetwater were the featured performers for the Marigold Days Festival in her hometown, Dry Ridge, Ky. Jerry Reed had been the headliner the previous year, with David Houston filling that slot a year prior to Reed.

Rita is currently performing at Glen's Woodland Inn in Walton, Ky., Friday-Sunday, 7-11 p.m.

Beginning in October, Rita will be leading the membership meetings that fall on the first Monday of each month. With thirty years of music-business experience, Rita (who has a recording studio in her home) has a lot to offer. So come join the Beach Party. The water is just fine.
