Other Smothers Bros. Rack Up 3 RROTEs, lovesauce Takes 2

It was a Sunday night of twos at the 2nd Annual RROTE Awards on January 15. A pair of brothers, two genres of music and a couple of sponsors added up to a glitzy event at Coyote's as one by one the RROTE (Roadrunner + Coyote's) award nominees were named, their videos sampled and the winners announced. – The Other Smothers Bros. didn't mind breaking the doubles thread, winning three of the four country categories in which they were nominated. In addition to the RROTE trophy and part of the $5,000 purse, they earned a tn'p to Nashville to meet with recording industry execs. And the guys surely were happy with the wins. Their live performance of "Think Again" (complete with dancers) was indeed lively and ably demonstrated their winning ways.

lovesauce & soulbones "I'll Fly Away"

The big winner in the rock category was lovesauce & soulbones who took home two RROTES for "Hold On." Their live performance of the song eamed them astanding ovation. (An a cappella rendition of "I'll Fly Away" upon accepting their second award was likewise enthusiastically received.) Additionally, they collected two trophies, their share of the $5000 and an opportunity to meet with executives of the rock recording industry in New York.

Tuxedos and glitter abounded this evening — and that was just the presenters. A sampling of the personalities who handed out the RROTEs and the checks included Coyote Calhoun, Bong the Clown, Rick Van Hoose and Kirby Adams.

Doctor Gonzo ably emceed the awards and was a considerable improvement over last year's host.
