David Parmley's latest release, a solo project, is a fine showcase for one of the deepest richest baritone voices in bluegrass. What We Leave Behind is an excellent collection of gospel songs that can calm a soul in troubled times.

The CD cover says "Parmley and Friends." What an understatement. His compatriots from Continental Divide play a major role on this release: Steve Day, fiddle; Mike Anglin, bass; and Danny Barnes, mandolin. In addition, this stellar release is pushed up several notches on the ladder of excellence with the inclusion of such greats as Adam Steffy and Ronnie McCourey, mandolin; Glen Duncan, fiddle; and Russell Moore, vocals.

Ben Greene's banjo is outstanding on a new cover for Charlie Monroe's "When The Angels Carry Me Home." The high lonesome sound of Larry Stephenson and Del McCoury set several track on fire, especially, "Trust Jesus" and "He'll Lead You Home." Randy Kohrs' guitar playing is exquisite, but he is at his finest on "When Love Is All You Want." The golden bow award goes to Aubrey Haynie, who graces five tracks with incredible sensitivity and drive.

And to top off Parmley's list of friends, you get Missy Raines, IBMA bass player of the year (again!) and Jim Hurst, IBMA guitarist of the year. This popular duo lends elegance and excitement to any strings they touch.
