Gene Carrington, cattle baron and LASC member from Illinois, got a little write-up in the September '95 edition of the newsletter Country Illustrated. Seems he's had some recent interest from artists and producers and naturally he's excited about it. I liked his quote: "My next big break will be my first!"

Me, too, Gene. Me, too!

Congratulations to LASC Honorary Lifetime Member Alan Rhody. His new CD, From A Real Good Home, was picked as one of the Top 12 new independent releases in the November-December issue of The Performing Songwriter magazine. Also, check out Alan's column, "This Road of Music," on page 24 of this issue of LMN. It contains an interesting account of his brush with a dangerous woman named Opal.

Belated congratulations to Becky Bennett O'Toole and husband Jim on the birth of a new daughter, Devin, who arrived in the O'Toole household on January 30. Devin was welcomed by a big brother, Jim's son Matthew.

We're looking forward to seeing lots of friends, old and new, at the big Songwriting Competition '95 Awards Ceremony /Tenth Anniversary Celebration / Christmas Party at The Rudyard Kipling on Saturday, December 2. It sure would be a fun time if all LASCers, past and present, could attend, along with other Co-op friends.

Hope to see many of you sooner than that — one month sooner, to be exact. On Thursday, November 2, we'll be showcasing three of our writers at The Rud. Ralph Sidway's going to be performing, along with Jeff "Mr. Mole Man" Poole and singing schoolteacher Dwight Smith. Hope Dwight does some of those really funny songs he introduced to us back in August at our guitar pull. And since he's an out-of-towner (Independence, Ky.), we should turn out in large numbers to show our support.
