Engine Takes to Water (Quarterstick)
June of 44

I suppose the new thing for bands to do is form with members who live all over the country. This group started when Jeff Mueller took a trip to New York City. The band wrote some songs and left on tour.

Quarterstick, Rodan's label, was eager to pick them up. This decision was made for a couple of reasons: because Jeff was in Rodan and two other members were famous indie rock icons, and because the band was good.

This record has its moments. I really have not found a song that I dislike. Musically it ranges from melodic pieces reminiscent of Slint, to heavy parts which derive from the group's former bands: Rodan, Hoover, and Codeine. These songs hit exactly when they should.

A must buy for everyone who loves intelligent rock.
