Kiss the Clown (Rotten)

Kiss the Clown

Kiss the Clown is a pop band in a punl band's body, and they can't seem to reconcile the two. Their eponymous album is filled with songs that wander the spectrum between the two genres but never really find a home.

The band sounds better when it doesn't try so hard to be Green Day. Kiss the Clown fakes attitude, but doesn't have the punch to be punk. The songs that work best are the ones that exploit the band's strength: the work of guitarists Nimai Pickup and Ky Porter.

Then there's the problem of Kerry Donivon's voice. It sounds like Geddy Lee with a mouth full of gravel, and the constant high-pitched scream gets on your nerves after a while. Thankfully, only a few songs break the three~minute barrier, so it is not as bad as it could have been.
