CCM Happenings

A Sad Farewell

After almost I5 years in the Highlands, Jubilee Coffeehouse will be closing it's doors.

The building which houses Jubilee has been sold, and since the Christian nightspot operated rent-free as an outreach of the Louisville Mennonite church, funds are not available to make monthly rent payments. Jubilee will be missed by many in Louisville, especially Christian musicians. A huge round of applause goes out to the Mennonite church, as well as the numerous servants who kept the light of Christ burning bright at Jubilee.

As One Door Closes, Another Opens

Campus Life has opened a new community center in the Frankfort/Clifton area.

Located at the corner of Clifton and Payne streets, the new center is an outreach for churched and unchurched high school students, who meet there every Tuesday night at 7:31 p.m.

Campus Life will begin putting on concerts at the center soon, starting Friday, March 29, when Forefront recording artists Grammatrain appear, along with Evansville, Ind. band Blaster the Rocket Boy. Call 635-7607

In The Works

New projects by local artists, including VIA, Fish Tales, Paul Turner and Omega Highway.

Also. be on the lookout for recordings by Dust Face and the Dughouse Firemen, which has supposedly just completed a hugely successful tour of the Orient. Also, local boy Chris Carder is cutting an album in Atlanta with a number of that city's Christian alternative luminaries. Chuck Jeter is finishing up vocals for his soon-to-be-released debut album.

On The Radio

WFPK FM 92, which now regularly plays alternative music in addition to their jazz, world beat and blues formats, has been playing cuts from the Jars of Clay album. This is exciting news for fans (like me!) of the cool new alternative Christian band, which caused quite a splash in the CCM industry last year.

Also: the video for DC Talk's single "Jesus Freak" is now on the menu of "The Box," a video jukebox that airs locally on (noncable) channel 49. You can call up and play the video for cost of $2.5O, which will added automatically to your phone bill.

On the live scene: Calvary Lutheran Church, located at 1833 Bardstown Rd., is "beginning to book shows for another season of live music in their patio area. Last year, during warm weather season. the church played host to performances by Joey Carmack, Richard Johnson, and Via. among others. Local jazz musician Jamey Aebersold is among those scheduled to play this season. For more info, Call 458-3354.
