sterilized, unobtrusive musical decor

The Greatest Praise and Worship Choruses (Essential)
Paradigm

From Essential, the folks who brought us Jars of Clay, comes this bizarre, New Age Muzak-style treatment of some of the modern church's most familiar melodies. Songs like "Give Thanks," "Majesty," "Awesome God" and "Praise the Name of Jesus" get tossed into a blender with Kraftwerk, Enigma and the Art of Noise to create this smooth, harmonious (and no doubt nutritious) concoction.

The best thing I can say for the Paradigm series (which also includes collections of hits by Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith) is that it is unobtrusive. That is, you can play it at a low volume and it becomes the aural equivalent of room spray. Personally, I find it a bit annoying, but for Christians who buy records by John Tesh and the Mannheim Steamroller, Paradigm is right up your sterilized alley.
