Musician Seminars, Expos and Workshops

The Hindman Settlement School has scheduled it's 20th Anniversary Appalachian Family Folk Week for June 8-14, 1997. The week-long event is "designed for individuals and families who want to share a week of traditional Appalachian music, dance, craft, storytelling and instrument playing." Staff members include Jean Ritchie, Ray Slone, Lee Sexton, Tom Bledsoe, Mike Ware, Randy Wilson and Rich Kirby, among others.

• The Swannanoa Gathering at Warren Wilson College, Asheville, NC is set for July 6 – August 2, 1997. This event, which started out as a week-long folk music and songwriter camp has morphed into a month's worth of varied "weeks", including Celtic Week, July 6-12; Performance Lab Week, July 6-12; Dulcimer Week, July 13-19; Dance Week, July 13-19; Old Time Music & Dance Week, July 20-26; Contemporary Folk Week, July 27-August 2 (Tom Paxton has been added as an instructor); and Guitar Week, July 27-August 2.

The 4th Annual International Country Music Expo will be held at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN August 28-31, 1997. This Expo is pitched as being "for people who want a career in country music." These days, that might be three weeks worth of career.
