Molly Rises

After the usual delays that accompany the start of new ventures, Louisville's newest Irish venue will have its grand opening on Tuesday, August 11. The stage will be open to all celtoid players from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m., after which two bands will perform: Drowsy Maggie and Brigid's Cross. The latter group hails from Cleveland, Ohio and comes highly recommended, so it should be a mighty night. For additional information, call 473-1222. A million and a half Yankee dollars were spent by Irishmen Michael Hughes and Chris Purcell to make MM a fabulous experience for Louisvillians. Added to the excellent Irish Rover, we now have two truly authentic Irish pubs located in just the right spots, Crescent Hill and the Highlands.

Louisville's Bluegrass Irish Dancers have really prospered over the last few years, especially due to the hard work and support of the parents of the dancers. Their second annual Feis in June was a great success. Registration for the 1998-99 beginner classes (children 5 and up) is now open and will run through September 10. Classes start September 14. To register or to obtain additional information regarding class times and tuition, call Heather McClanahan, TCRG, Instructor, at 897-1400. Riverdance is coming in September, so your kids are going to want to do this. Reserve their spot now!

Local Fiddlers in the Old Country

Larry Green of the Rashers and Danette Rhoads of Galloglas have been in Ireland and Scotland, respectively, no doubt picking up some tricks of the trade. Larry will be adding some regional Irish styles to his bluegrass/old time background. Danette visited with Dougie McLean in his studio and played with a local Scots band on the village green.

Rashers Rule

If you want to catch the Rashers, mark your calendars for August 7, when they will be performing in the Third Street Park in Bloomington, Indiana from 6 to 8 p.m. On August 29, they will be at the Thomas Winery in Madison, Indiana for the Texas Brisket Bash.

Galloping Galloglas

Galloglas will be on WAVE TV-3 Sunrise show on Friday, August 21 where they will no doubt promote their performance that night at "Owensboro After 5" at the Rivercenter Park, beginning at 5:30 (Central Time). On Saturday, August 22, they will return to more familiar ground at the Rudyard Kipling at 8 p.m. with special guests TBA.

Rudyard Kipling Jam Sessions

The long standing Celtic sessions continue on August 7 at the Rudyard Kipling. All are welcome to participate, so bring your "axe." There is no cover, and recently it has been extremely well attended by both players and listeners.
