Clear (Ardent Records)

Clear

A solid and uplifting debut from this female-fronted acoustic rock quintet, Clear has an immediately engaging sound that will delight fans of the Sundays, Caedmon's Call or Lisa Loeb. While most of the 13 songs on this disc could be considered upbeat rockers, "What of Love" boasts a techno/acoustic (?!) vibe similar to that of Jars of Clay, while "Rain" is moody enough to yank for tears on the heartstrings. Touches of accordion and cello color "Through My Window," while "Chasing After" is a bittersweet voice & piano exercise that calls to mind Over the Rhine. Varied, yet consistent, Clear is a promising start for a band with limitless possibilities.
