Louisville Orchestra Wins Prestigious ASCAP Award
The Louisville Orchestra has been awarded the 1989 ASCAP John S. Edwards Award, the Society's most prestigious prize.
In a May 19 article in The Courier-Journal, Staff Writer Andrew Adler quotes Lawrence Leighton Smith, music director of the orchestra, as saying that the prize "does prove that we certainly are on our chosen course, and it will bear fruit."
Smith will accept the award on behalf of the orchestra at ASCAP's annual meeting in San Francisco this month, and an ASCAP representative is expected to make a formal presentation to the orchestra next season in Louisville.
According to Wayne S. Brown, executive director of the orchestra, "This award is the Oscar."
We extend congratulations to our city's wonderful award-winning orchestra.
