You expect to see any number of members of the Kyana Blues Society at the Alligator Records artist Janiva Magness show at Uncle Slayton's on July 5, which should tell you pretty much all you need to know about this chanteuse. If that's not enough, consider Bettye LaVette's quote: "Hopefully, this recording will bring the rest of the world to Janiva, and then they'll know, like I know, that she's one of the 'real deals' out there." The recording cited is the just-released The Stronger For It. With a stack of blues awards, including the 2009 B.B. King Entertainer Of The Year, to her credit, there's just no reason not to head over to Uncle Slayton's if you love the blues. Tickets are $15 adv. and $18 DoS.
