You might think that describing metal as "symphonic" but then, making a small group of people sound as loud as an orchestra is why amplifiers were built. In the case of the Dutch band Epica, "symphonic metal" is their brand and philosophical lyrics their content, which focus particularly on religion, science and politics, omitting only sex as in the hot topics list. The "sex" part of that is handled by redheaded frontwoman and mezzo-soprano Simone Simons, who will stir up the boys no end by whipping her hair around. Who knew science and world affairs could be so ... exciting? They have a new CD, Requiem For The Indifferent, so be sure not to be that at this show. Also on the bill for the November 23 show at Headliners are Alestorm, Insomnium, Destiny Potato and System Divide. Tickets range from $20 to $60 for VIP access.
