Ms. Dar
Williams, whose fanboy Hendrik Hertzberg of the The New
Yorker has called "America's best singer-songwriter," hasn't
been in town since playing the Forecastle Fest in 2010, so fans will be
excited to know that she has a
new album, In the Time of Gods,
to play at Headliners Music
Hall on June 22. Williams has a big reputation in the activist folk
scene, having co-authored a natural foods directory, The Tofu
Tollbooth, as well as having
written many songs beloved by liberal activists,
including Joan Baez,
with whom she toured. Her latest album was inspired by the Greek gods,
including Zeus, who, she said, was a bully. It all is part and parcel of
her new gig as guest professor at Weysleyan University, where she
lectures on “Music Movements in Capitalist Democracy." Tickets are a
reasonable $20 advance/$23 DoS.
