The Bottle Rockets

For some fans, the January 26 show at Headliners, featuring the singer-songwriter Marshall Crenshaw plus The Bottle Rockets, will be a bit of a trip back to the last decade or earlier. The Bottle Rockets have stayed busy since their debut in '92, recording eleven project since the eponymous Bottle Rockets. For fans of Texas music, their roots were clarified with the release of 2002's Songs of Sahm, a collection of tunes by San Antonio shuffle master Doug Sahm, who began his career with "She's About A Loser," released by The Sir Douglas Quintet. The Bottle Rockets likewise had an early hit with "Radar Gun."
Crenshaw can hang with TBR as well, with a hit way back in 1982 with "Someday, Someway." He has an extensive discography as well and songwriting credits on other bands' albums including Matthew Sweet, Gin Blossoms, America and Ronnie Spector. So the show should be, in effect, a musical seminar on the last 50 years of American music. Tickets are $15/$20 Reserved. Here's the Bottle Rockets' "Welfare Music":
