California's The Mountain Goats won't be climbing around on their equipment, if they are encouraged to do so by the audience - it's just a band, headed by John Danielle. Danielle started out as a lo-fi DIYer, releasing home recordings on cassette and some vinyl. He's added (and subtracted) additional members and the recordings have improved since the 1991 start, with some of their material making it into television programming, including "Weeds" and "The Walking Dead." The latest album is Beat The Champ and you can hear it at Headliners Music Hall on April 21 for $20. Here's a recent full concert:
