It's only occasionally that we get to plug some honky-tonk country but here it is: Whitey Morgan & The 78s plus Nick Dittmeier & The Sawdusters at Headliners on March 28. They're making some degree of noise on the national scene, which is mighty tough thing to do, playing honky-tonk country, even though by current standards, that would be definitely retro-roots music, one step removed from bands like Old Crow Medicine Show and The Devil Makes Three. You don't have to be 78 to enjoy them. Fans of The Ladybirds should be able to relate quite nicely, as honky-tonk country has always had that rockabilly influence or, as the historians might note, rockabilly was often classified as honky-tonk country. In 2014, they were the winner of The Ameripolitan Music Awards Outlaw Country Band of the Year. Check out this video of them playing the John D. Loudmilk tune "Bad News":
