Sturgill Simpson has to carry around the tag of savior of traditional country music or something very much like that. The Eastern Kentucky/Lexington-raised singer-songwriter hired studio musicians from the Seventies era to make his frist record, so it definitely sounded like more 'traditional' country.  His second record, Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, takes a big step sideways, bringing in some more current topics for his material.
