Sturgill Simpson has to carry around the tag of savior of traditional country music or something very much like that. The Eastern Kentucky/Lexington-raised singer-songwriter hired studio musicians from the Seventies era to make his frist record, so it definitely sounded like more 'traditional' country.  His second record, Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, takes a big step sideways, bringing in some more current topics for his material. This show is presented by WFPK, so you know it doesn't stray too far from what would work on their rotation schedule. You can check him out at the Mercury Ballroom on January 30 for $17.
