Dead Child In Pix

Cory Greenwell caught the Dead Child show at Cahoots last night (4/16/2008) and took a bunch of photos. He notes that their style is not really to his taste. that Phantom Family Halo is more his thing musically. The summary line “All in all, it was a fun performance of a couple guys just pushing their instruments to the extreme.”

Shocking News - Rock Stars Likelier To Die Young

Study at Centre for Public Health at Liverpool John Moores University Notes High Death Rate For Successful Musicians

A study reported by Reuters has indicated that rock stars are more likely to die young than their non-famous counterparts. The study did note differences between British and American rockers, with the Brits generally having a higher death rate in the first five years after achieving fame, while the Americans had a high death rate for twenty-five years after achieving fame. The authors of the study blamed the discrepancy on the the American habit of ‘reunion’ tours, which exposed older artists to the hazards of the road. You can read the whole thing here.

Amazon To Launch DRM-Free MP3 Store

Tracks from 12,000 Labels Including All of EMI’s Catalog to be Available

The long-rumored launch of an MP3 Download store by Amazon has been officially announced. The tracks will be DRM-free, so the tracks will play on any device. Flexible and lower pricing, with full album downloads retailing at $4.99 to $8.99 and individual tracks ranging from $.89-$.99 are rumored to be part of the package. Hypebot has more.

Pension Enlargement?: Edgar Bronfman Jr. Sues Vivendi SA

As is so often said these days, you can’t make stuff like this up: Edgar Bronfman Jr., the chairman and chief executive officer of Warner Music Group Corporation, filed suit against Vivendi SA, the French company to whom he sold Seagram’s for $34 billion in 2000, claiming it owes him a bigger pension. The funny, gruesome details are all laid out in this New York Post article.

The Kentucky Arts Council, a state agency in the Commerce Department, has announced the awarding of funds to a number of Louisville arts groups. Among them are:
