Green Day, Blink-182 Producer Jerry Finn, 39, Dies

Record producer Jerry Finn, 39, died on August 21 following a massive brain hemmorhage in July. He was removed from life support on August 9. Finn was the producer for many albums by current performers, including AFI, Bad Religion, Blink-182, Alkaline Trio, MxPx, Rancid, Green Day, Sum 41, The Offspring and Morrissey.

Blues Guitarist Phil Guy, 68, Dies

Blues guitarist Phil Guy, brother of Buddy Guy, died pf pancreatic cancer on August 20, 2008. The Chicago Tribune has the story.

Nathan Calhoun Benefit

Louisville musician Nathan Calhoun has recently been diagnosed with skin cancer and has no insurance., A benefit for him is set for Saturday, August 23, 7 p.m. at the Swiss FOP Lodge 719, Lynn Street Louisville, KY 40217. A $10 donation is requested. Allen Edison and David Sippel plus Serpent Wisdom will perform.

Spinners Vocalist Pervis Jackson, 70, Dies

Pervis Jackson, 70, bass vocalist for the R&B group The Spinners, died in Detroit on August 18, 2008 of cancer. USA Today has an obituary.

Slint’s “Good Night Captain” as a Children’s Book?

Slint’s songs seem to have more legs than would seem reasonable for a band with as thin a discography as Slint, but, hey, that’s why they’re a famous cult band.
