The Kentuckiana Blues Society’s Solo/Duo Blues Contest was held Sunday, June 28 at Lisa’s Oak Street Lounge. JonBoy Slim grabbed the top spot with his collection of original tunes, early 20th Century style blues picking and overall command of the stage. There were musicians everywhere; the club was so crowded that it was hard to stay inside for too long. Tim Krekel, singer/ songwriter, died at his home in Louisville on June 24, 2009 at the age of 58 after a short bout with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Martha Krekel, and his brother Jack. Tim Krekel grew up in the West End and attended Flaget High School.
