Spector Murder Case Goes to the Jury – Finally

Five Month Trial a Staple of Court TV

The Phil Spector murder trial, which has lasted some five months, has finally been sent to the jury. The daily coverage by Court TV has been interrupted only occasionally by other, less colorful, trials. It seems like every musician who every recorded with Spector has been found and interviewed on the cable channel and innummerable lawyers and other commentators have put in an appearance to render their judgment on the otherwise straight-forward case. It has seemed that the defense team’s strategy has been to string out the case as long as possible, perhaps with the hope that Spector might himself die of old age or have a total mental breakdown, given that he has refused to allow a plea bargain or an insanity defense to be offered.

A limosine driver testified that Spector came up to him, with a gun in his hand, and said, “I think I just killed somebody” on the night of the death of Lana Clarkson
