Feingold Takes on the Corporations Over Payola
Prior Agreements Not Being Enacted, Senator Says
Sen. Russ Feingold, (D-WI), has sent a letter to the heads of CBS Radio, Citadel, Clear Channel and Entercom, questioning their commitment to ending payola in radio. The move was prompted by recent allegations that Clear Channel Communications was requiring independent artists to waive their royalties in order to get the airplay that the companies had agreed to provide as part of the payola settlement consent degree.
Feingold promises to take further action in the Congress to make the now-voluntary agreement mandatory if the companies fail to abide by the consent degree. FMQB has all the details.
