Ryan Adams Gives Leatherhead a Big Shout-Out in Harp

Monday, July 30th, 2007

“I am that guy,” he says of Boone

When Ryan Adams was in town recently, he stopped by Leatherhead on Bardstown Road, as do many musicians, in part because it’s right across the street from Guitar Emporium. Adams went the leather shop one better, though - he plugged it and owner Nick Boone in the most recent edition of Harp, a slick music publication. Adams is a big fan of Orlando Bloom, who is also a big fan of Leatherhead. Oprah fans might remember Bloom talking up Leatherhead’s dog collars on a show a while back.

Anyway, Nick and Lynn are tickled by the mention.

Program Attracted a Non-Ordinary Audience

Andrew Adler’s Sunday column in the C-J concerns the presentation of a program called “Video Games Live,” which attracted a large audience of young games, putting more ‘butts in the seats’ than usual at a Louisville Orchestra concert. Adler suggests that while these kind of events don’t ‘grow the audience’ for classical music, they do stand on their own and are worth doing, the purists’ scorn not withstanding. Read the whole piece here.

LEO’s Music Issue

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

All About Innovation

The annual LEO Music Issue is out on the streets. Your honorable editor, once more, was not invited to contribute, although LMN’s Jazz columnist has a piece about Boogie Morton. There are five primary articles, each of which contains subarticles about somebody in the business, including a piece by Catherine Irwin on her band Freakwater; Dave Johnson of The Glasspack scribbles a few words about the South End; Mat Herron confesses to having gone to Tweligans for a punk show; the ubiquitous Leigh Ann Yost gets bio’ed and Dominic Cipolla writes about his two bands, Dead Child and Phantom Family Halo.

Adam Day has a long feature on VHS or Beta. THere’s a bunch more, of course. Trying to cover the Louisville music scene in all its diversity in a single issue is bonkers, but I can’t blame editor Cary Stemle for trying. Pick up a copy and read it all; you’ll learn something about the Louisville music scene.

I can’t resist pointing out, however, that every issue of Louisville Music News is a Music issue

Tune-In Tuesday

J. L. Puckett at the Courier-Journal does his usual Tuesday round-up of CD releases and mentions the give-away of Prince’s latest CD, Planet Earth, by a British newspaper. It’s not quite clear why he mentioned, though, except that it made the industry and particularly record stores, really, really mad.
